Why do bad things happen?

All of us wonder why bad things happen in this world. What is the cause of tragedies? Is it because God is cruel? Is it the work of the devil? What is the truth? We must realize the truth.

Is God responsible for our misery?

Some of us believe that God is indifferent to the human condition. That he is cruel or not powerful enough to stop tragedies from happening and prevent suffering. But we must realize that God is not micromanaging our world. There are universal laws that govern the world. One such law is the Law of Action and Reaction.

The Universal Law of Action and Reaction

The world is governed by the Law of Action and Reaction. As we sow, so shall we reap. Whatever we do comes back to us. This is also known as the Law of Karma. At death, only the body dies but the Mind and the Ego, the ME is reborn to redeem its actions of previous lives.

Apples can't grow on Mango trees

Just as the seed we plant decides the fruit on the tree, our deeds decide our destiny. Can apples grow on a mango tree? No, never. Similarly, whatever unfolds in our life, the good and the bad, is because of our own actions, our own Karma. If bad things are happening to seemingly good people, it’s because they have done some bad deeds in some previous life.

Why does a newborn suffer?

We see tiny babies suffering just as they are born. Why? It’s because their ME, the Mind and the Ego is carrying its Karma of a previous life which must be redeemed. Suffering is not random or by chance. There is a reason behind it.

They mystery of death and afterlife

To understand why bad things happen to us, we must understand the reality of life and death. Death is a mystery. We have to pay for our bad deeds just as we are rewarded for our good deeds. At death, only the body dies, but the ME, the Mind and the Ego is reborn to settle its Karma. We can infer that the Law of Karma exists when we see some people being born in fortunate circumstances while others are born in unfortunate circumstances.

What happens at death

When a person dies, it is only the death of the body. The person who was alive has moved on and he will soon be reborn in a new body.

Realize the Truth

We must understand how the Law of Karma works otherwise we will live in ignorance, be miserable and suffer. We must accept the existence of a Power, the Divine Power we call God, and we must live with faith, in surrender to His Divine Will.

Living Blissfully no matter what

Those who realize the truth live with peace and bliss. They accept the existence of the Law of Karma and understand that they themselves are responsible for what is happening in their life. In fact, when something bad happens, they rejoice knowing that their negative Karma is being settled. They overcome all ignorance and are liberated to be united with God, which is the ultimate goal of life.

11 / 13

The Ultimate Goal of Life

The ultimate goal of life has 3 steps: Realization of the Truth; Liberation from all misery, suffering, and the cycle of death and rebirth; and finally, Unification with the Divine.
