The efficacy of offering prayers

Every one resorts to praying at some time or other.  Prayer is offered in order to bring good luck in any enterprise or activity mainly because of an unknown future. Students  regularly pray in order to do well in exam. Even atheists resort to prayers to get good luck or success in any venture. They may not pray in a temple or place of worship or pray openly before a picture or an idol of any god or a symbol. But they pray within their hearts definitely when in trouble or otherwise. Even if you wish for something to happen in future or for good luck, it amounts to a sort of prayer.

One may question the rationale behind offering prayers especially when it does not produce the desired effect. A student may still fail in exam even after offering prayers also.  There is no proof available to show that some unknown power or force listens to our prayers and alters the course of events in order to benefit us. Irrespective of what happens externally, we often experience that, praying offers immense benefits to us internally. It steels our resolve, strengthens our mind and gives us the necessary will power and courage to face a situation and get along whether what we prayed for happens or not. We get a satisfaction that we have done the best possible after prayers and if things do not happen the way we want, we are prepared to blame it on bad luck and carry on. It boosts our self-confidence and self esteem.  It prevents the collapse of our personality in face of adversity or a severe test.

Actually our mind is a great reservoir of hidden strength and immense talent. When we pray intensely, we draw on the reserves of our mind. Even in a seemingly helpless situation, prayers help us find a way out.  Prayer is a part of a defence mechanism to which our mind takes recourse in a difficult situation.  Most importantly, when we pray, it instills in us humbleness and modesty, which are the most important traits for an achiever and a person of wisdom. That is the efficacy of prayers.
