What should you do everyday?
Manusmriti is one the most widely read social texts today --- the scripture identifies everyday behaviour that we should follow in order to be successful both at office and at home.
The first sanskrit text
Manusmriti was the first Sanskrit texts translated during the British rule of India in 1794 --- it was used to formulate the colonial rule. According to Manusmriti, these are the "yagyas" you should do every day.
Brahmayagya
According to Manusmriti, you should read Vedas, Ramayana and other religious Puranas everyday --- this will purge your mind and your soul.
Devayagya
Praying to God daily will purge you off your sins and will make you a better person --- make sure you do it every day.
Pitruyagya
It is said that you should always do shradh-tarpan for those who have passed away --- this will give solace to their soul.
Manushyayagya
According to Manusmriti, you should never turn away beggars --- who come to your house to ask for food, water or clothes. Let us now talk about what Manusmriti says about women.
Keeping the woman happy
It is said that a husband who keeps his wife happy will eventually will do very well in life --- women are protectors for the family.
Unhappy woman
An unhappy woman will destroy a woman --- those who keep a woman miserable are doomed for failure.

A family where a woman is insulted will prosper --- a woman should be respected at all costs.
Dressing up
Manusmriti also says that a woman of the house should always be well-dressed, wear ornaments and wear good perfume --- this will give her an enchanting aura.
Multiplying the happiness
A woman who is happy in her own skin will make the lives of those around her better too --- she can make or break a family.
Enlighten a home
According to Manusmriti, a woman enlightens a home and spreads prosperity --- she can actually make a house wealthy.
Service of elders
It is said that a woman who respects elders will have a long and prosperous life --- it is said that if a woman disrespects her elders, she will not prosper.
Equal rights
It is said that men and women are equal in all respects -- hence in all decisions of life, women should have an equal say.
Family dispute
A man who is wise should not indulge in fights in the family, hence that can cause life-long disputes.
Wedding
According to Manusmriti, a man who does not give his daughter's hand to a noble man in marriage will have to face life-term consequences in the form of bad luck.
Till death do us part
A couple should remain till death do them apart ---- a marriage should not have any place for adultery or lies.
Woman incharge
In terms of both business and home, a woman should have equal rights everywhere. There should not be any discrimination.
Keeping the woman captive
It is said that if a woman is constrained by a man, that man is doomed to fail sometime or the other in life.
No vices
It is said that woman should keep themselves away from all vices --- only then can they prosper in society.
