Everyone Understands Fear
Let us begin by understanding fear. It is a powerful emotion and everyone has felt fearful at some time or the other. Small children are afraid of unknown scary figures that may be lurking in the dark. Schoolchildren are fearful of exams, especially when they have not studied properly. Adults are fearful of office events, especially when they are apprehensive of the outcome. Natural calamities like excessive rain, floods, a storm or a tsunami can cause fear too.

Be Practical
Analyze fear. Is it real or imagined? If it is real, take a few deep breaths and think calmly and logically about what you can do to lessen this fear. When you are well-prepared for an event, the fear is usually replaced by self-confidence and a deep sense of logic. You have done your best and you will leave the outcome to luck and the Almighty.

Overcome a Panic Attack
If you are losing your ability to stay calm and logical, then you will not be able to think clearly. The first logical step is to do something to bring down your heartbeat. Sit quietly somewhere or go for a small walk in a nearby garden or park. You will find yourself calming down when you are out with nature.
Sit and Breathe Deeply
Next, find a bench in the park and concentrate on deep breathing rather than shallow breathing, which is what we do usually. Take in a deep breath with positive thoughts and watch your abdomen inflate with the air you have taken in. Then, slowly breathe out. You are taking in oxygen and breathing out impure carbon dioxide that will also carry away your negative, fearful thoughts.
Be Realistic
Life is never a bed of roses. Reflect on every successful person you know well and you will know that the person has put in hard work as well as faced difficulties and obstacles. It is just not possible to win always. Reflect on the life of a successful sports star – he or she has faced defeat on many occasions too. The lesson is that you should not get disappointed by failure. Just put in extra hard work and move on.
Visualize A Happy Place
Close your eyes and think of yourself in a safe and happy place. Concentrate on the emotions of security and joy that you are feeling in this place. This feeling will flood you with a sense of relief and happiness and will help you to calm down. You are not alone as you have your loved ones with you back home who want the best for you.
Phone a Loved One
If you are alone and have no one to talk to, reach out to your phone and call family or a good friend who understands what you are going through. A pep talk by someone who thinks of your wellbeing all the time will help. It always does. It will revive you instantly.
Say No to Intoxicants
Certain people will turn to intoxicating beverages to forget their fears and troubles. Instead, the thing to do is to eat healthy, wholesome food, take plenty of natural exercise like a walk in the park or a good swim and have a good night’s sleep. The recommended dose is seven to eight hours of good sleep. And you will feel your anxieties and fears melting away.
One Step at a Time
Take one doable step at a time and you will slowly overcome your fears, anxieties and limitations. If, for instance, you feel afraid of facing your boss at work, make sure that you finish your work on time and are up-to-date with plans for the next week. Once you have these basics in place, you can move on to the next step – of excelling in what you are doing.
Pat Yourself on the Back
Once you have overcome a certain obstacle and are not afraid of it any longer, you deserve a treat. So, go ahead and buy yourself a good book, or treat yourself to a great meal or book yourself for a well-deserved holiday. Rewarding yourself is the key to feeling good about yourself, and with each step overcome, you will be less fearful of the next one.
