The Science of Vaastu
The ancient science of Vastu or the science of architecture integrates the design of your rooms with nature so that the environment is ideal for what you want to do in the rooms of your house. For instance, is the room meant for you to sleep, study, eat or meet others? Is it meant to be a guest room? Accordingly, the décor will change.

Designing a Room
For instance, if you are designing a room for a small child, you will naturally ensure that there is enough light, and enough ventilation and that the child’s bed faces in the recommended direction. At the other side of the room should be a writing table. The two areas should have some demarcation between them.

What is Vastu Sastra?
The underlying root of the Sanskrit word, Vastu is vas which means to "dwell, live, stay, or reside". The term shastra loosely translated means "doctrine or teaching". Vāstu-Śastras is therefore, literally, the science of dwelling. All this has been learned from the ancient Sanskrit manuals of architecture that have an account of Vastu-Vidya or knowledge of your dwelling places.
Concentration
In an architecture website, Dr Aarushi Sadhotra Manhas, founder of Vaastublessings says that it is not how much time a child studies that is important but the concentration and grasping power of the child that determines how much the child is able to retain of what is being studied.
The Ideal Study Room
The important tips that Dr. Aarushi suggests are that the ideal study room should be in the east or west of the house. Children should be seated facing north or east while studying and their prizes, certificates, photographs of prize-winning moments should be displayed on the north or east wall of the room.
Location of the Television In Your House
Another Vaastu expert who ran a popular column in a national newspaper supplement during the ’90s when Vaastu was once again being rediscovered in modern India, Jugal Kishore, would say that a TV, your window to the outside world should never be placed in a child’s bedroom or study room. It is a distraction and promotes neither sleeping or studying.
Balance the colours and decor
Because of lack of space in modern homes today, the study and bedroom is often combined. Ensure that the study table is placed on one side of the room and the bed on the other, accordingly. Do up the spaces differently following a balance in the colours and décor.
Colours of the Decor
Vastu consultant Rashi Gaur says that the décor should be neither too bright nor too drab. The walls should be in mild pastels and the plainness broken by a bright painting or fun poster. A white or off-white ceiling is the best for your child’s eyes.
Face East While Studying
The light-bestowing East is considered to be the zone of growth, knowledge and learning in the Vaastu science. As the child faces East while studying, keep the atmosphere clutter-free.
Conclusion
Vaastu even suggests where you should place your child’s school text books and other books of learning such as encyclopedias and dictionaries and reference books such as books on the human body and simple science. All these invaluable Vaastu tips will improve your child’s concentration while studying, reading and learning.
