Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I send you all my warmest wishes at this holiday season and for the New Year.
Each New Year is an opportunity for us to assess our life to see how far we have come to reach our goals. If we have not attained them, we can see how much more we need to go and what is holding us back. To help us remember our true purpose, let’s remember this slogan for 2017:
Focus on the inner scene In 2017
On the spiritual path, our main purpose in life is to explore the inner scene—the wondrous spiritual realms within leading to self-knowledge and God-realization. We may have physical, emotional, intellectual, and financial goals that occupy the outer scenes of our life we are also striving to meet, but the one goal that will help our soul the most is the spiritual one by focusing on the inner scene. Life poses many ups and downs as we strive to achieve our benchmarks, but the one attainment that will bring us lasting peace, happiness, and bliss is oneness with God. As the New Year arrives, we can evaluate whether we have reached that goal and, if not, what actions to take to speed our progress.
While attending to worldly responsibilities the one constant on which we should focus daily is the inner scene so we can realize God. Spiritual Masters have given a meditation technique to go within and find God. By meditating for a minimum of two and a half hours daily, keeping an introspection diary to weed out failures in thoughts, words, and deeds that delay our progress, living on a vegetarian diet, avoiding alcohol and intoxicating and hallucinogenic drugs, going to satsang, and doing selfless service we have the ingredients for success on the spiritual path.
As we look ahead to 2017, let us resolve to make the necessary adjustments and improvements in our daily schedules to make focusing on the inner scene a priority. There is no end to our to-do list of chores, responsibilities, and worldly goals of life’s outer scenes. That will never let up. By making the spiritual practices of meditation, the introspection diary, attending satsang, and doing selfless service, whether physical or financial, at the top of our to-do list and doing those regularly, we will slowly, steadily, and certainly reach union with the Divine in this lifetime.
My love, best wishes, and prayers are with each of you to make this year one of focusing on the inner scene in 2017 for each of you leading to unending bliss and joy.
Yours affectionately,
(RAJINDER SINGH)
