Living in this world right now for most people is a lot about material greed, success and power, all manifestations of the false ego – which is the kind that makes us exert as we have to be better than our competitors and colleagues to get that superficial coveted stature, partner, wealth, and promotion. It begins early too now, for to achieve all this and have a head start, you have to do better in your studies to obtain top grades that will ensure admission to the best colleges and universities. Instead of using this to help others, most will use it as a license to brag and become even more arrogant, which is a major vice according to all religions.

The Insidious Effects of Stress

What people don’t know is that stress affects our body in many ways. In the short-term, it is good as it makes us overreach and perform better, but in the long-term, it can lead to chronic headaches, blood pressure, diabetes and several other lifestyle ailments. It can even make us reach out for comfort foods, what we call stress eating and before you know it, you also become obese, a condition that brings about another set of diseases and ailments.

Some Identifiers

However, these physical changes take some time to manifest, so how can you tell if you are stressed out and unable to handle the job at hand? Here are some classic signs of what happens when your body is stressed out: your heart beats faster, you breathe quickly, and your muscles feel taut. Your body then does either of two things: either you rise up to meet the demands of the occasion and fight it out or flee the scene, leaving it all behind. This is the typical flight or flee response that stress brings on.

There are some more signs that you must watch out for. You could have panic attacks, cry or have anger outbursts. Your appetite may be affected and you could lose interest in daily chores. Or you could be laid up with headaches or stomach cramps, all of which may be stress-induced but feel very real.

There are more symptoms that might affect you. You may withdraw into a shell and start avoiding people and regular work as you lose interest in your everyday chores. But this is eve worse, for as you go behind schedule either at studies or at work, then you begin feeling a sense of helplessness and hopelessness. Or worse still, you can slip into depression.

There are a lot of chemicals and hormones released in the body as a result of the stress you experience. How this can affect your body is also alarming. You can watch this video here to know how it affects you physically.
