For all those who don't know much about this form of yoga, Transcendental meditation is totally different from the traditional yoga form. It requires no concentration and control over the mind. Step 1: To start the practice, choose a location which is peaceful enough to enable you to concentrate on the sound or mantra.
Step 2: You can perform this form of meditation in any position. You can sit on the chair or floor or anywhere you want to. All you have to make sure is to be in the comfortable position while performing meditation.
To make sure that the position is comfortable enough, it is recommended to sit in the desired position for about half an hour; if you feel cosy enough, then you can choose the location to perform transcendental meditation.
Step 3: Once you have chosen the location, sit in a comfortable position close your eyes and take a deep breath. It is advisable to incorporate some breathing exercises while starting meditation.
Step 4: Relax your body, release all the tension and just feel the present moment.
Step 5: Certified practitioners generally provide their students with Sanskrit mantras to perform this form of meditation. But it is not a compulsion; if you are doing it on your own, you can choose any relaxing sound you want to.
Step 6: While performing meditation, if at any point of time you feel distracted, repeat the mantra yourself, replay the sound and get into the practice again.
Step 7: After sometime, ease out your body by moving toes and fingers.
Step 8: When you feel that you have come back to your relaxed body, slowly open your eyes and come back to the real world.
