ITS BEAUTIFUL TO FOLLOW LIFE’S RHYTHM

When was the last time you heard music?

I don't mean the background radio while you are chatting on the phone, or running on the treadmill or gyrating on the dance floor. Of course all of that is fun too, but when I say listen to music- I mean with our heart, not our ear. To feel each beat echoing in our veins, to feel the blood pound and the heart melt. When the world around us collapses to a single note.

I must confess there was a time when I would immerse myself totally- hours would pass, the sun would set. But that is coming increasingly rare.

Yesterday I picked up the newspaper and read about Pandit Shankar Ghosh leaving our world. A giant in the world of Indian classical music, who was regularly seen accompanying legendary musicians like Pt Ravi Shankar, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pt Hari Prasad Chourasia etc.I was fortunate to attend, perhaps his last concert at Swabhumi in Kolkata-a “ jugalbandi” with his son Pt Bikram Ghosh. It was an unforgettable evening.

I was price ledges to know him personally when he came to learn Reiki a few years ago. He spent his life dedicated to music, playing, performing and teaching it. He was extremely humble ,deeply engrossed in his music and left deep impact on people who came across him. It must have been so fulfilling to live like that. After all, music makes us whole. It inspires laughter and tears, it can tell stories without saying a word. He was lucky man to live like that. He has been in my thoughts and has inspired me to write this

There are enough scientific studies that link music to good health and happiness. It beats stress, releases the happy hormones and without rhythm music is not complete. We must feel the music embedded deep within us. So let us not forget to listen, really listen.

And once we learn to follow the rhythm of life, journey ahead is joyous
