In this make-shift reality that all of us are experiencing, most of us are rushing to our respective offices in the morning and about 80 per cent of this working population prefers to hail an Uber or Ola every day over any other public transport. This said the belief system to hail cab service is to keep life a little simple and not be caught in the daily madness and rush --- all the pushing and grabbing, however, what would you do when hailing a Cab would turn into a horror story? Whilst we had been thinking to do something about the rising cases of Cab drivers misbehaving with the passengers, here is a story of a woman who got the brunt of travelling with a mentally-unstable co-passenger (well, I had no better term to explain her behaviour)...
Details as per the TOI Report
In yet another case in a week, a woman commuter travelling by an Uber cab in the city took to social media to narrate her woes.
However, her complaint was not against the driver but against a woman co-passenger. She alleged in her post that her co-passenger had called her a "chinky". The complainant, Ushnota Paul, was travelling to Lower Parel on Monday morning in Uber Pool (shared) cab when the incident happened. She alleged that her co-passenger abused her, and allegedly grabbed her hair, pulled out clumps of hair and scratched her face and hands. Paul, a journalist, approached the police to lodge a complaint, but the Uber team was not willing to provide details of her co-passenger.
Paul said that the co-passenger was initially yelling at the driver partner saying she was paying the most and still getting dropped last. "When I tried to intervene, she abused me. Reasoning with her was futile. She called me all sorts of names. I tried to click her picture and she immediately snatched my phone and threatened to break it," she added.
Uneducated and arrogant people take Uber for granted and create an unnecessary ruckus. Is this even a news?
A case has been registered under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) against unknown persons at N M Joshi Marg police station.
TOI was unable to get details of Paul's co-passenger. An Uber spokesperson said: "We have reached out to law-enforcement agencies to offer information that could be helpful." ( Inputs from Mateen Hafeez)
