In one sentence, self-realization is discovering your true identity. Satchidananda, that is you! Self-realization is evolution of soul and unfolding of life and consciousness to find the ultimate answer to the eternal question – Who am I?

In our life we have predestined paths to tread and pre-orchestrated roles to play. We are someone’s child, somebody’s father or mother, uncle-aunt, brother-sister, wife-husband…. These are our relationship roles. As members of society, we have yet another kind of role – teacher, student, leader, lawyer, worker, labourer, policeman. Chief executive. Most of us play these roles – sometimes happily and sometimes unhappily. We live life and cross over to begin again. A superfluous existence. Amidst these relationships and roles the chance of a life passes without realizing the Real self.

Self is like a glass of water contained and bound by the body and mind. When the barriers break, the water spills over – free to flow and sometimes evaporates into nothingness, only the essence remains.

Self realisation is ultimate freedom. This is indeed an arduous task. One has to overcome not only the negative emotions, but also has to curtail rippling effects of desires and rein the uncontrollable mind.  When you are able to cut through superficial levels of ego and experience the presence of supreme soul in all animate and inanimate, its is awareness of being. It is a solitude where external turbulence cannot reach. There is no you, Me and Him. Realisation is not running away from family, friends and foes. Realisaton is when you are able to erase the distance and difference between yourself and all other creations. In this oneness you share His glory with the biggest, the smallest and the greatest. The key to self realization is your own inner vision and the discovery that the very object of the search is within your self. Realisation is discovery of your inner sun, the radiant source of light within you.

This is no drug-induced ecstasy for a few hours, but an eternal state of happiness, where duality of existence ends. Realisation is finding the eternal self address of bliss – ananda which is complete within itself, where the creator and created merge in everlasting union. Soham.
