The founder of Ananda Marga Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii affectionately called Ba'ba' by His disciples was born in Jamalpur, Bihar, India, at dawn on Vaesha’khi Pu’rnima’ in 1921,the same day that Buddha was born about 2500 years earlier. Because the sun was rising at the moment of His birth, the baby was named Arun, which means crimson dawn. Later His name was changed to Prabhat Ranjan. Until 1954, Prabhat led a life of spiritual camouflage. He initiated a large number of people without letting one another know that they were the disciples of one and the same guru. Then on November 7th, 1954, He called only those disciples together who were initiated after 1949 for the first time and delivered His first spiritual address. Those disciples who were initiated by him statring from Shravanii Purnima' of 1939 when Kali Charan Bandopadhyaya was initiated by Him at age of 19, and many others until 1948 remained in seclusion as desired by Him. These disciples, many of whom were realized ones, continued to work for Dharma Pracara and sevice to humanity. They remained in close contact with Him and carried out His commands of creating spiritual awakening of humanity of our planet. On January 9th,1955, Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha was formally founded, with its twin objectives of  liberation of self, and service to the world. 
From 1955 Baba began training spiritual teachers and empowering them to teach the meditation lessons.
This purely spiritual phase ended in 1962 when Baba began the order of monks and nuns. In 1963, the Education, Relief and Welfare Section was started. Missionary workers and Margis threw themselves into opening schools and children homes, and into catastrophe relief work. The organization’s speed became something unimaginable.
Desperate to stop Ananda Marga, the government, in complicity with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), concocted murder conspiracy charges against Baba, and He was arrested in December 1971. In 1973, when it appeared we might soon win the case, Baba suffered an attempt to kill Him by poison. He lost His eyesight and underwent intense pain for many days. When the government refused to investigate the poisoning, Baba began a protest fast consuming liquids only . which He continued for more than five years. He stopped the fast when He was proven innocent, honorably acquitted and released from jail in August 1978. 
Before Baba was imprisoned, Ananda Marga was active in only five countries. By the time He came out, it had spread to eighty, and had become the world.s largest traditional yoga movement.
In 1981 Baba conducted an extraordinary three-month program called Dharma samiiks'a' in which He demonstrated His omniscience to analyze the conduct and health of thousands of Margiis, one by one. From 1985 a massive development program of Ananda Nagar was undertaken. 
Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii the Founder-President of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. He was a luminary unparalleled, a great philosopher, social thinker, a reformer  a economist & perhaps the greatest visionary & linguist the world has seen. He was a poet musician par excellence who is credited with the composition of thousands of songs in many languages. A prolific writer, a psychologist & an educator, a historian and a neo-humanist. His published work spans through all aspects of human endeavor and exceeds over 1000 works.
